What will we be doing?

Last year's Safer Internet Day was the biggest yet with more than a thousand organisations and schools across the UK getting involved to help inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively.

This year our children will be taking part in a full day of learning about keeping safe while using the internet. In the afteroon we are inviting all our parents to come in and join their children in class where the children become the teachers sharing al their knowledge. The aim is for both children and parents to have a better awareness and understanding of keeping safe online.

What is Safer Internet Day?

Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people and inspire a national conversation.

Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

Globally, Safer Internet Day is celebrated in over a hundred countries, coordinated by the joint Insafe/INHOPE network, with the support of the European Commission, and national Safer Internet Centres across Europe.

The day offers the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet.

Have you considered what your children thinks about your online habits? Safer Internet Day 2019 asked Childnet Digital Leaders on what they thought about parents sharing content online without asking first. Hear what they have to say!https://youtu.be/nCLwJQ0SBsE

Do you know what your children are doing and looking at online? The Safer Internet Day 2018 team created a film for parents and carers. The film looks at what is important in digital parenting and signposts parents and carers to resources they might find useful.
